The Department of Housing and Community Development's Headquarters Office is located in Prince George's County across from the New Carrollton Metro stop.

POSITION DUTIES

The Division of Finance and Administration is seeking a qualified senior level Director of Government Accounting to manage two units each having a Controller position with fourteen (14) accountant professionals. The Department of Housing and Community Development has an operating budget in excess of $362 million annually. This position will hire, train and coach a professional team in cash management, accounting policies, new program setup and general communications with program staff. This position will be responsible to ensure all deadlines for the unit are met with satisfaction including the annual operating budget submission and that operating expenses are reconciled and closed by July 31st. In addition, this position will be responsible for process improvements, developing desk procedures, and oral and written financial presentations to executive staff. 

The successful candidate must be able to work independently, be comfortable working with auditors, take initiative and coach a team of professionals to meet stringent deadlines.  Must have experience in financial analysis trending and excel skills utilizing financial formulas.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university, preferably in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration.             

Experience: Five years of experience in accounting, financial analysis, analyzing and interpreting accounting systems, records and reports by applying generally accepted accounting principles.  Two years must have involved supervision of professional accountant employees, responsibility for program development or operations.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Two years of  Government Accounting experience and two years of Budget Operating Management experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to individuals with experience in state or local budget, policy and legislative processes; budget preparation, auditing and programmatic or financial analysis.

EXAMINATION PROCESS
